In the stealth world of cyberattacks, Dragos is a leader in protecting critical infrastructures – power plants, water treatment facilities, transportation hubs – the things that we rely on every day. Their motto is not an exaggeration: “Safeguarding Civilization.” When it came time to release its latest platform, Dragos called on Eclectic Gorilla Studios to help tell their story.
Dragos approached us with an idea to somehow highlight their upcoming new software for cybersecurity. We teamed up with with Hamilton Media DC to strategize about a style and message. Using a documentary-style approach, the production team interviewed the key people, attended ‘closed’ meetings and roamed the industrial workplace with the freedom to ease-drop on pop-up conversations. This unfettered access captured the intricacies of launching the latest cybersecurity product.
The pre-production stage was vital for this project,” said Jay Hamilton of Hamilton Media DC. “We had to learn a new language and immerse ourselves in their culture to best capture how the Dragos platform worked. These cyber-experts were the only ones who could tell the story and we needed to bring it out with the right questioning. We approached this as a running conversation showing the people of Dragos and their commitment to developing a leading cybersecurity product.”

One of the challenges was to relay the importance of the mission without using a scare-tactic approach of dooms-day scenarios. It was self-evident. Our goal was to instill confidence in potential clients and showcase the cybersecurity talent assembled at Dragos. Through their own words a trust-level is established that these folks have “been there and done that.” This isn’t their first rodeo and that’s important to convey when charged with protecting a city’s electric grid. “Working on the messaging of each interview and weaving it into a story was the secret sauce,” said Hamilton. “We structured the production along the key elements of the Platform: Threat Detection, Detection Dashboard and Investigation Playbook. It’s a real eye-opener into the depth and seriousness of cybersecurity. ”
We took their style guide and worked it into the overall look of the video, utilizing their dramatic use of black and white images combined with the signature Dragos Blue wash. It creates a stand out, yet simple look that adds to the story and brand of Dragos. Liz Tippitt added, "Thank you for all your awesome work! The video has been an absolute hit!
